Competence in green
We are the leading provider in this special segment of structured project financing for SMEs in the German core market and in France. The Bank has specialised in the financing of wind power photovoltaic projects. The Bank has launched an issue programme for green bonds to this end. This is part of SaarLB’s sustainability programme and will contribute to the further expansion of SaarLB’s position in renewable energies and climate protection.
The proceeds from the issue of SaarLB’s green bonds are used exclusively for eligible or suitable projects within the meaning of the green bond principles, which fall into the category of “renewable energies”. Specifically, SaarLB finances the acquisition, construction, development and installation of units for the generation of renewable energy as well as the connection to the electricity grid, including long-term operation.
With these projects, SaarLB contributes to the fulfilment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by preventing or reducing CO2 emissions and increasing the share of renewable energies in the global energy mix. The projects are also in line with the EU Action Plan for Financing Sustainable Growth, as they contribute to the EU environmental objective of mitigating climate change. The objective is to increase the supply of wind and solar energy and thus avoid CO2 emissions.
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its effects
SaarLB has launched a green bond programme to promote projects in the area of renewable energies that have a clear ecological benefit. This framework is intended to be used to define, select, evaluate and report on appropriate projects and is designed to meet the ICMA’s requirements for issuing green bonds.
The preparation of the report was based on the German Sustainability Code (Deutsche Nachhaltigkeitskodex) which served as the framework. SaarLB has issued a declaration of conformity using the performance indicators of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI SRS).
Vigeo Eiris was engaged to prepare an independent opinion in the form of a “second party opinion” on the
sustainability aspects and on the sustainability management of the green bonds issued by Landesbank Saar.
