Message formats for payment transaction services

The ISO standard 20022 or UNIFI (Universal Financial Industry Message Scheme) for XML (Extensible Markup Language) is the basis for modern payment transaction services and all used SEPA data formats.For smooth commissioning and execution of your payments, we recommend preparing early for the upcoming format changes and the associated system adjustments.

New requirements for the structure of address details

Unstructured address details according to ISO version 2009 (i.e., only and (optional) are filled) are only allowed until 11/2025.
When switching to the new SEPA format (ISO version 2019), we recommend switching directly to the structured address format.
Please refer to the current specification of the data formats (latest version of Appendix 3 of the DFÜ [Data Transfer] Agreement) for detailed information.

Important changes to international payments:

The traditional DTAZV payment for international payment transactions will be discontinued at the end of October 2026 and replaced by pain.001.001.09. Until this time, both formats for international payments, the old format (DTAZV format) and the new ISO format pain.001.001.09, can be used in parallel.
Extended data requirements and new functionalities can no longer be mapped via the old DTAZV format, therefore we recommend an early switch to the ISO standard 20022.

How we support you with the transition:

All EBICS customers and their participants who already use the order type AZV will automatically receive the new order type AXZ for the submission of foreign payments according to the new ISO 20022 standard.
Authorisations on your accounts and participants remain unchanged.
International payments in ISO format pain.001.001.09 can now be submitted to us via the EBICS bank server, provided your financial software is set up for this.
