Award ceremony for the Franco-German Youth Literature Prize

Once again this year, we were proud to be a partner at the award ceremony for the 13th Franco-German Youth Literature Prize, held in the Modern Gallery of the Saarland Museum. In addition to children and young people, many authors and representatives from politics, business and culture were also in attendance. The State Secretary for Education and Culture, Jessica Heide, and the Consul General of the French Republic in Saarland, Jérôme Spinoza, presented the awards – this year in the category of narrative youth literature – and introduced the winners to the public.

Our heartfelt congratulations go to the winners Eva Rottmann (‘Fucking fucking schön’) and Raphaëlle (‘Les mille vies d’Ismaë’) for their outstanding works. The Youth Jury Prize, with which young readers honour their personal favourites, was also awarded for the second time.

The Franco-German Youth Literature Prize is a joint prize between Germany and France that promotes contemporary youth literature in both countries as well as literary dialogue. As a partner, we are delighted to contribute to the promotion of literature and intercultural understanding.

The award draws the attention of German and French publishers to outstanding children’s and young adult books by authors from the neighbouring country that have not yet been translated into German or French. The Franco-German Youth Literature Prize acts as a bridge builder and promotes understanding between the two cultures; it is also an award for the production of high-quality children’s and young adult literature by German and French publishers. It is awarded annually to one German and one French author of children’s and young adult literature.

The Franco-German Youth Literature Prize is a joint project of the Foundation for Franco-German Cultural Cooperation and the European Children’s and Youth Book Fair Saarbrücken e.V.
