Foresight Through Proximity

Our values

Only if you know people and thus your customers and take time for them will you also know exactly their concerns, wishes and needs.

This is precisely the basic requirement for us, so we can also act in a sufficiently purposeful and successful manner in the interests of our customers.

For us as a Franco-German bank, economic foresight and proximity to people are more than just a claim. We live out this idea in our daily interactions with one another, and do so across borders. This strong approach, in addition to our corporate values, also creates the necessary foundation and the appropriate framework.

Our strategy

SaarLB defined the Franco-German market as its core region in its business strategy right from the start of its almost 80-year existence due to its prominent location with its headquarters in the capital of Saarland and its close proximity to France.

In order to be able to serve these target markets and thus our customers to the best extent possible, the strategic headquarters in Saarbrucken has been supplemented over the years by branches in other parts of Germany – Koblenz, Mannheim, Oldenburg – and abroad – Strasbourg, Paris and Lyon. This special network of locations represents a further major success factor in order to be able to constantly guarantee the all-important proximity to the customer.

As a result of our pronounced France strategy, the French market is also a very special concern for us. With our French brand identity “La Banque Franco-Allemande”, we express exactly what we are in our neighbouring country: A Franco-German bank that is also a partner for cross-border activities – in this way we guide our clients to their desired target markets.

With our initiative “Pôle Franco-Allemand” and our strong cooperation partners, the “Banque Populaire Alsace Lorraine Champagne” and “Oddo BHF”, we have a great network at our disposal – this also clearly underlines our German-French orientation.

Our actions

This business strategy positioning designed for our target markets is complemented by focused action, which is also one of the essential success factors for us.

For this reason, we focus on the SME business with an emphasis on corporate customers and real estate business, project financing in the area of renewable energies, support for institutional customers, public sector/municipalities, as well as high net worth individuals.

We thus stand for focused financial services, coupled with progress in the economic region and the necessary respect for our partners.

Our roots

On 29 November 1941, the “Landesbank und Girozentrale Westmark”, SaarLB’s predecessor, was founded in Saarbrucken. One of the first tasks of today’s SaarLB was to provide the public and private sectors with loans and also to manage the savings bank assets. Shortly after Saarland joined the Federal Republic of Germany and the Deutschmark was introduced, today’s SaarLB founded the “Banque Franco-Allemande”. This institute quickly developed into an important factor in Franco-German economic relations. On the basis of this step, which was already a ground-breaking one at the time, SaarLB has consistently expanded its cross-border market position as a Franco-German regional bank following the strategic realignment in 2007. For 80 years now, SaarLB has been demonstrating its proximity – both to the region and to its customers and partners. At the same time, it has always endeavoured to provide impetus with foresight for the economy in the region. More about SaarLB’s corporate history
