Social commitment

Committed to regional development

As a driving force in the economic region, SaarLB participates in regional economic development companies and plays an active role in their committees, as it does in Saarländische Investitionskreditbank AG (SIKB).

Through its involvement in equity investment companies, the Bank bears responsibility in the areas of regional and technology promotion as well as future and venture financing.

Securing progress and prosperity

As a partner in the public sector, SaarLB finances key investments in the region, e.g. in the areas of tourism, locations for businesses, social real estate (clinics, retirement homes), schools and universities.

With LBS Landesbausparkasse Saar, the Bank promotes the acquisition of private residential property, the implementation of energy-efficient renovations and investments within the framework of the Renewable Energies Act, in cooperation with the Saarland savings banks and with the inclusion of state subsidies.

Science

SaarLB has a long tradition of promoting science. Our commitment is sustainable and long-term because SaarLB is committed to progress in the region as a reliable partner

For decades, we have therefore supported Saarland University and the Saarland University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft des Saarlandes, HTW) with the Franco-German University Institute (Deutsch-Französische Hochschulinstitut, DFHI): Support is provided for a wide variety of areas, individual chairs, projects and the sponsoring associations. SaarLB is involved as a sponsor and member of the Association of Friends and Sponsors of Saarland University, the DFHI Sponsors’ Association and the Sponsors’ Association of the Ecole de Management Strasbourg (E.M. Strasbourg Partenaires).

As a member of the Circle of Friends, SaarLB supports the Franco-German University (DFH) based in Saarbrücken.

The largest single commitment in SaarLB’s promotion of science is the SaarLB Science Prize.

Art and culture

As part of our commitment to art and culture, we have supported both in the region since being founded. Our commitment is permanent and geared towards sustainability.

A highlight of our commitment is the Walter Gieseking Competition for students at the Hochschule für Musik Saar [Saar Music School]. SaarLB’s concert tradition is well known in the region, with over 170 concerts having taken place since 1967.In addition to many up-and-coming talents, international stars such as Sol Gabetta, Hélène Grimaud and Maxim Vengerov have also been guests at SaarLB.

Also worthy of note is the collection of permanent loans to the Saarland Museum, which comprises over 40 exhibits. Among them are works by Albert Weisgerber, Eduardo Chillida, Emil Nolde, Emil Schumacher, Pierre Alechinsky and Max Liebermann.

Due to our strategic orientation, we no longer have public access to our bank building, and we also lack the space to adequately display or store the many great works we have acquired over the years. For this reason, we have donated 106 exhibits by Mia Münster and seven exhibits by Albert Haberer to the Museum in Sankt Wendel .

Furthermore, we support the
• Association for the Promotion of Franco-German Friendship
• Foundation for Franco-German Cultural Cooperation
• Maecenata Foundation

SaarLB’s funding principles

SaarLB has funding principles according to which it supports projects, institutions and organisations. Eligible for funding are projects and plans with a recognisable unique position and future orientation, which are professionally conceived and implemented, while also being well thought-out economically. There is a good chance of funding if these criteria are met. Investments, networks, partnerships and Franco-German projects are particularly worthy of funding.
