Once again this year, we were delighted to be a partner of the award ceremony for the 14th Franco-German Youth Literature Prize, held at the State Chancellery in Saarbrücken. Alongside children and young people, the event was attended by numerous authors, as well as representatives from the political, business and cultural sectors. Jessica Heide, State Secretary for Education and Culture, and Jérôme Spinoza, Consul General of the French Republic in Saarland, presented the awards – this year in the youth novel category – and introduced the winning authors to the audience.
We warmly congratulate Cornelia Wald on Das nennt man Glück and Hervé Giraud on La cabane de la fin du monde, two outstanding works of literature.
The Young Jury Prize was also presented. This award gives young readers the opportunity to honour the books they enjoyed most. This year’s prize went to Massuda Kassem for Chicken Survivor, as well as to Delphine Roux and Gaëlle Duhazé for L’échappée belle de Marta.
The Franco-German Youth Literature Prize is a joint German-French award that promotes contemporary children’s and young adult literature from both countries and fosters literary exchange. As a partner, we are pleased to contribute to the promotion of literature and intercultural understanding.
The prize enables German and French publishers to discover outstanding works of children’s and young adult literature from the neighbouring country that have not yet been translated into German or French. The Franco-German Youth Literature Prize serves as a cultural bridge, fostering mutual understanding between the two cultures. It also recognises the high quality and diversity of children’s and young adult literature published by German and French publishing houses.
The Franco-German Youth Literature Prize is a joint initiative of the Foundation for Franco-German Cultural Cooperation and the European Children’s and Young Adult Book Fair in Saarbrücken (Europäische Kinder- und Jugendbuchmesse Saarbrücken e.V.).
